January-February 2005 |
It was good to have many friends for the Eucharist on Christmas Day. We remembered many who were in other parts of the world, and some who were sick and unable to come. Some went home for their celebrations but ten people joined us at Prasada, and had an enjoyable time, with food, party games and crackers.
Boxing Day brought the devastating news of the Tsunami disaster. Later we received a letter from the diocesan Bishop informing us that The Diocese in Europe was appealing for funds to aid the Diocese in Sri Lanka in their work with the victims there. Our congregation sent a donation.
For all those who have suffered terrible loss as a result of the Tsunami disaster.
For parents who have lost children and for children who have lost parents.
For those who have lost homes, belongings and livelihoods, and those who have been traumatised by the devastation.
Pray for all those working to bring help over an extended period and for the reconstruction of the environment, employment and community life.
For Mahmoud Abbas and the future of Palestine.

Celebration of 25th anniversary of the Diocese in Europe. A local celebration is to be held at La Madone dUtelle. 24th June Feast of Saint John the Baptist. Eucharist 11a.m. followed by lunch. This Chapel is situated near the sky above the village of Utelle. Superb views and walks.
January 6th was the Feast of the Epiphany, but we are now allowed to celebrate it on the Sunday before. This is the day on which we celebrate the coming of the Magi from the East to visit Jesus. It is of special significance to us, as it was the first occasion when the Gentiles visited Jesus. It was significantly poignant this year, as our minds were filled with the disaster in Indonesia. It was an occasion when the East came into the hearts and minds of the West and the world became united in the endeavours to help.
February 9th is Ash Wednesday. It is good to begin Lent in Church. Lent can be associated with the idea of giving up sweets, alcohol etc. But we should see it as an opportunity for positive efforts in self discipline. Prayer, reading and study. The Retreat at Laghay is an opportunity for a closer walk with God
